Abstract
Luminescence emission of Tm $^{\rm {3+}}$ in YAG codoped with Cr $^{\rm {3+}}$ under selective (into $^{\rm {2}}$E Cr $^{\rm {3+}}$ levels or $^{\rm {3+}}$F $_{\rm {3}}$Tm $^{\rm {3+}}$ levels) and nonselective (into $^{\rm {4}}$T $_{\rm {2}}$ Cr $^{\rm {3+}}$) excitation is dominated by three new centers. Based on structural and spectral characteristics, these centers are associated with the three possible perturbations produced by Cr3+ ions at the nearest neighbour Tm $^{\rm {3+}}$ ions. A selective energy transfer within these Cr $^{\rm {3+}}$-Tm $^{\rm {3+}}$ pairs is observed.
