Phonon Band Gaps

Abstract
We present structures, based on rods, that exhibit phonon band gaps. Structures based on rods made out of segments of different
materials have very large gaps or multiple gaps. For homogeneous cylinders smaller gaps exist. Possible applications are discussed.
