Abstract
A study of the anomalous modes in acetanilide and five deuterated derivatives by incoherent inelastic neutron scattering is
reported. These data show that the dynamics of the amide and methyl groups influence each other. In addition, the anomalous
temperature behaviour of the NH out-of-plane bending mode is confirmed. These observations suggest that the self-trapping
mechanism in ACN may be more complex than hitherto assumed.
